HA: Daniel Avery + Avalon Emerson at District 8
Daniel Avery will be playing a 3 hour set at District 8 this Friday as part of a limited European tour marking the release of his upcoming DJ Kicks LP.
“Electronic music is unique in that, whilst it has an immediate effect on the body, the culture surrounding it has the ability to run deep into your life. Whenever I’m in a club, I want to give myself up to music. This is the very thing that excites me the most. Witnessing a DJ create an atmosphere in a room from the ground up takes patience and effort from everyone present but when the pivotal moments hit, your watch stops ticking.”– Daniel Avery
It is this thinking which motivated and inspired the making of Avery’s entry into the treasured DJ-Kicks series, set for release on 11th November 2016 via !K7 Records and announced today alongside a striking animated visual from Kevin Freeney for ambient closing track ‘Space Echo’, the start of some long-awaited new material from Avery.
Across its 78 minutes the mix creates a hypnotic space focusing on “music by like-minded souls” from the outer reaches of techno including international talents Svreca, Rrose, Artefakt and IORI. It is a mix concerned with the idea of taking a collective breath and allowing records their own time.

CULTURE
Eastrogen Rising: a rebel cabaret
EASTROGEN RISING: a rebel cabaret, is a response to the Abbey Theatre’s 1916 Centenary programme, which had only one show written by a woman. Inspired by the outrage of the Waking the Feminists initiative, singer-songwriter/poet BeRn commissioned 16 artists to produce a new piece about the women of 1916, known and unknown. The result is a fast-paced celebration of those women, from Countess Constance Markievicz to the messenger girls, the looters and the widows of the executed men. The multimedia show includes songs, poetry, spoken word, theatre pieces, video and recorded soundscapes. By turns comic, tragic and rabble-rousing, the cabaret was a sell-out success at the Five Lamps Arts Festival in Dublin in March and April, where it ran for two extra nights by popular demand. In May, it (the poets & songwriter’s only) played to a packed house at the Ó Bhéal Centenary Celebration in Cork & in August the show traveled to Belfast’s Roddy Mc Corley’s Social Club to rapturous applause. December’s show will be the last of the run as the 1916 commemorations come to a close.

Capitalism: The Musical
Capitalism: The Musical is an acrobatic political satire on the state we are in and the future we can create. Written by Deirdre Murphy, Capitalism: The Musical is a razor sharp fairytale of heroes, emperors, and magic. The show tells the tale of a heroic group of everyday acrobats, aided by a powerful triumvirate of Fairy God Mothers. The acrobats tell their own stories — who they are and why they care — while a trio of Emperors breathes down their necks and schemes to stay on top.
The show is a further manifestation of its evolving self – see if you can spot the differences!
