TO DANCE

Prohibition: Gatsby’s Mansion

13227538_1323163904377072_7194544380434034686_o

Already one of Europe’s biggest vintage parties, Film Fatale’s Prohibition returns with its annual 1920s summer party, Gatsby’s Mansion, at the glorious gardens and great hall of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham.

I have to say that I am really excited about this party! Gatsby’s Mansion is an amazing and unique event inspired in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel, “The Great Gatsby”, which was transformed into a film in 2013, with Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby.

The party will send you to the past and you will really feel like you are in the epitome of 1920s glamour and decadence — Jay Gatsby’s summer mansion.

When you get there, Gatsby’s chauffeur will meet you at the gate and bring you to the manicured lawns for G&Ts, bowls, croquet, live music and a bit of Charleston in the sunshine before heading indoors for the cat’s meow of parties.

On the dance floor you will have vintage DJs, live ragtime, old-meets-new twenties fusion and original music from Stomptown Brass. While down in the cellar, you’ll find gangsters betting their last dime at the gambling tables.

Being dressed in vintage style is obligatory.

Saturday (13.08) – 7:00 pm to 2:00 am

Tickets: €34 – There are people selling tickets on the Facebook page of the event for face value. So if you want to go to the party run and get your ticket! Good luck and have fun!

90’s Night at The Morgan Bar!

13938036_1243179445727355_260855313329059227_oWhat about going back to the 90’s this Thursday and enjoying the best hits of when you were a little bit younger? The Morgan Bar will be having a 90’s Night. Doors open at 8pm so you can get started early with Jamie Byrne on the decks! With over a decade of experience, Jamie spent 5 years in the USA doing gigs in New York’s hottest night clubs including The Pink Elephant, Club Cain, Marquee & Tonic. Now he plays at some of the most well known Dublin clubs such as Lillies and the Wright Venue. He’s also warmed up acts such as Rihanna and the Rolling Stones.

The bar will also have some 90’s inspired cocktails which include:

  • Genie in a bottle of bubbles
  • Nothing compares 2 a Hendrick’s tonic
  • Macarena Morgan bubbles

It’s sounds like great craic! I particularly love the 90’s songs. “Should I stay or Should I go!”

Let’s talk about food! The country’s biggest International BBQ Competition, ‘The Big Grill Festival’, is back this summer for its 3rd edition in Herbert Park, from the 11-14 August 2016.

This event has almost doubled in size since last year. It will feature famous Pitmasters from all over the world, mastering flame and fire to create a multitude of dishes using different BBQ techniques and flavours, for an estimated 20,000 visitors.

Headline chefs include Neil Rankin (Smokehouse Restaurant, London), Andre Lima de Luca (Brazil) John Relihan, (Holy Smoke, Cork), Mark O’Brien (Barbecoa, London), ‘The First Ladies of Cue’ from Hangfire Smokehouse (Wales), Richard Turner (Hawksmoor/Pit Cue, London) along with restaurants Fowl Play, Box Burger (Wicklow), The Pigs Tale (Wexford) and Dublin favourites, Kinara Kitchen, Pitt Bros and Asador. Chefs from Churrascada, Brazil’s uber BBQ festival in Sao Paolo, will be joining forces with organiser Andy Noonan’s new BBQ venture, Fowl Play, to demonstrate Mallmann-esque cooking techniques that have existed for thousands of years. Head of ‘catertainment’ will be the renowned and fully spandexed DJ BBQ who will be cooking and compering at the same time.

Bodytonic DJ’s will play soul, funk, hip hop and party music throughout the weekend, creating a truly international flavour in the heart of leafy D4. Other activities include eating competitions which feature raw chilies and dangerously hot chicken wings (so hot that participants have to wear goggles!) that are really good fun to watch as are the giant-sized performing ‘characters’ roaming the park.
