TO DANCE
Metropolis Festival 2016
Summertime is over but it doesn’t mean you won’t have more excellent music festivals to enjoy. Metropolis Festival returns for its second chapter this weekend, after its debut sell out last year. Set in the beautiful surrounds of the RDS complex this unique indoor event offers a tapestry of music, art, installations, performance and conversation. In addition to a stellar line-up of acts, Metropolis also focuses on highlighting the creativity that works in tandem with the music – the work of visual artists, authors, DJs, producers and promoters. To that end, expect an incredible line up for Friday and Saturday night. Plus, the world’s largest mirror ball (over 3 storeys high!) will be casting it’s disco spell on this year’s audience.
If you haven’t gotten your ticket yet you better be quick!

MUSIC
Live at The Liquor Rooms Vol VIII
This is the eighth installment of Live at The Liquor Rooms. This month they have the incredible Jesse John Heffernan (I’m a big fan!) taking the stage with support from the amazing Joey Gavin.
Jesse John Heffernan is a Dublin based Singer and songwriter who’s unique and uncompromising sound is set to make its mark on the industry.
Inspired by legends like Sam Cooke, Van Morrison, Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye, Jesse John’s love of lyrics and songwriting, mixed with his natural inner beat developed from his time drumming in school, is all delivered through a soulful vocal that grew roots as a young man singing for Irish group The Animators and during his time studying at the BIMM college.
Joey Gavin is a Dublin based musician and “Run, Rolf” is his sophomore release, following his 2015 EP “Circles”. This new double a-side sees a departure from Gavin’s Nick Drake-esque alt. folk vibes on “Circles”, going into more art pop territories on both tracks. “Run” is a chaotic, kaleidoscopic psych-pop jaunt, whereas “Rolf” sees Gavin provide quick-cutting lyricism and lush instrumentatals inspired by a certain BBC personality.
The combination of the good live music from these guys with this very cool venue is just perfect! Sounds like it’ll be a great night!

CULTURE
Normal by Anthony Neilson
This is the last weekend of this chilling and absorbing play! Normal, by Anthony Neilson, is an expressionistic drama detailing the life and crimes of Germany’s most infamous serial killer of the 20th Century, Peter Kurten, the so-called Dusseldorf Ripper. It presents a fascinating and challenging investigation into the mind of a killer, and the effect the investigation has on those leading it. Set in the Gothic confines of Smock Alley Boy’s School Theatre space, expect chills, sick laughter and an altogether unforgettable evening with Mittel-Europe’s own (and very real) Jack The Ripper.
Directed by Owen Lindsay
Lighting and Sound design by John Gunning
Starring Kamila Dydyna, Shane English and Michael O’Flaherty
Friday (04.11) & Saturday (05.11) – 8:00 pm
