Christmas Drive-in Movies are coming back to Dublin from Thursday (07.12) to Sunday (10.12) at Leopardstown Racecourse.

Experience the Magic of The Drive-in with Classic Christmas Movies including Elf, Home Alone, Love Actually and Santa Claus – The Movie on The World’s Biggest Mobile LED Screen.

Wild Lights is a must-see experience for family, friends and couples this festive season, where attendees will embark on an enchanted trail and discover a dazzling array of beautifully crafted, giant colourful lanterns inspired by wildlife.

Visitors will be treated to an awe-inspiring display of lanterns which includes a pride of lions, orangutans, tigers, giraffes, monkeys and much more!

Other highlights include a 16-metre high porcelain elephant tower and a 30-metre long Chinese dragon. At the event, visitors will also be wowed by Chinese performers before browsing at the Chinese craft market, all in one unforgettable setting. There will also be a selection of Chinese foods and warm drinks available for visitors to purchase.

This Friday Marcel Dettmann will be playing at District 8. The DJ and producer is recognized as one of the most influential proponents of contemporary techno. Widely associated with iconic trademarks including Berlin, Berghain and Hard Wax, Dettmann stays true to his roots by consistently innovating his interpretation of electronic music, integrating art with the scene.

Paranoid London – At Pygmalion

The trio Paranoid London who are blowing the underground up with their music will be playing at Pygmalion this Saturday. 

Not much is known about this mysterious trio. It’s acid, analogue house with live vocals all the way, all pressed to vinyl with no promo and no nonsense. They began working together in 2007, and have released 8 times on their self titled label thus far, with an album expected later in the year.

HomeBeat & Nialler9 in association with O’Hara’s Irish Craft Beers proudly close the second season of Future Proof with Christmas special – like all good series should do.

The Future Proof series of events showcases essential emerging and established acts who are weaving themselves into the present and future fabric of the Irish music scene.

The artists closing the series will be featuring this Thursday at Bello Bar:

Loah (soul/R&B/jazz/pop) – A Sierra Leonean/Irish vocalist with soul and grace – .

Beach (alt-rock/experimental) – One of the most intriguing new bands around. This psychedelic band of brothers mix slacker rock, electronic experimental and psychedelia.

Wastefellow (electronic/experimental) – Diolmhain Ingram Roche is a forward-thinking young producer and vocalist from Dublin, Ireland. His singular sound has caught the attention of Irish taste-makers such as Nialler9, District Magazine & Dan Hegarty.

Gavin James and friends Christmas charity concert – At Whelan’s

Following two sold out shows at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre Gavin James will be performing a Charity concert with special guests in Whelans on Sunday.

All proceeds from the show will go to the The Down Syndrome Centre who’s mission is to help children with Down syndrome to reach their full potential by providing cutting edge early intervention services and to create a family focused centre for parents of the children using the Service.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble – At The Sugar Club

This Saturday The Sugar Club will be receiving Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. These blood brothers, seven sons of jazz great Phil Cohran, carry on his musical legacy. HBE are seven brothers from the south side of Chicago and together they have toured throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and South America playing with everyone from Prince, Mos Def , Mick Jones (The Clash) and Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz). They’ve performed at Coachella, WOMAD AU, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall. The documentary film Brothers Hypnotic, explores their music, work ethic, life and experience of being raised by their jazz legend father Phil Cohran. After screening in major cities and festivals, it aired on PBS. Their song, “War” was featured in the blockbuster hit movie, Hunger Games.

How about a grunge night this Saturday? The Seattle Grunge Experience is the only tribute act to authentically recreate the live sound of the four biggest Grunge bands in history: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains.

The Seattle Grunge Experience is not to be missed as they deliver ‘all killer, no filler’ sets encapsulating the visceral punk power of Nirvana; the spiritual depth of Pearl Jam; the technical ability of Soundgarden and the fragile, edgy darkness of Alice in Chains. The end result is a musical feast that takes the listener back to the glory days of Grunge.

Breakfast Epiphanies: An Exhibition of new work by Duda

Following a successful year exhibiting all over the world, Duda returns to Dublin to launch his most recent body of work at Sol Art Gallery, on Dawson Street. Speaking on the upcoming exhibition, Sol Art Director, Martin Davis, said; “Duda is going from strength to strength. Whether it’s in the prestigious gallery in the new World Trade Centre in New York or at an international art fair in Chicago or Hong Kong, people recognize the original response to life in Duda’s work, and go away feeling animated and energized by his vibrant creations.”

Now in its fifth year, The MART Gallery has teamed up with Eastern Midlands Regional Waste Management Office [EMRWMO] to host Ireland’s largest green creative Christmas Market with vendors selling art, design, craft, knits/fashion, and jewelry, all from reused / recycled materials along with businesses promoting the sharing economy.

Housed in a beautifully re-purposed fire station on the high street in Rathmines, the market will showcase a wide range of hand-made, locally produced items – perfect for Christmas gifts, or as a present to treat yourself!
